Use of artificial intelligence
How ASTI uses and describes AI tools in its own work and content.
Our position
The Society takes a cautious, evidence-led view of artificial intelligence in surgery. Educational material describes what tools do, what has been studied, and what remains uncertain. It does not tell clinicians what to do in individual cases.
AI in Society content
Where AI tools assist in drafting Society content, a human author reviews and is accountable for the final text. Content is labelled where AI assistance has been material.
AI in submissions
Competition and article submissions must declare any use of generative AI. Undeclared use may lead to a submission being withdrawn from consideration.
No clinical decision-making
Nothing produced by or published on this website is intended to support clinical decision-making, diagnosis or treatment selection, and it must not be used for those purposes.
